Galileo Mining Ltd (ASX: GAL) is only just starting to understand the potential of its Callisto palladium-nickel-copper-platinum-gold-rhodium discovery in WA.

GAL today reported its highest grade palladium and platinum results to date from recent drilling at Callisto, which is part of GAL’s Norseman Project. These include:

  • 1 metre grading 11.23 g/t 3E (8.42 g/t palladium, 2.74 g/t platinum, 0.07 g/t gold), 0.10% copper & 0.80% nickel from 264m (NRCD317) within wide high-grade interval of
  • 34 metres grading 1.87 g/t 3E (1.51 g/t palladium, 0.30 g/t platinum, 0.06 g/t gold), 0.25% copper & 0.28% nickel from 235m

GAL reported assays for a total of 13 exploration drill holes and two metallurgical twin drill holes. All but one of these exploration drill holes returned a significant 3E (palladium-platinum-gold) intercept above 0.5 g/t.

We like that the disseminated sulphide mineralisation at Callisto continues to demonstrate consistency between drill holes across all sections.

The results also show that the known mineralised zone at Callisto continues to grow, and GAL highlighted the strong possibility of additional mineralised intrusions occurring within the five-kilometres of prospective strike to the north.

What’s next?

GAL’s extensive drilling program continues with two drill rigs on site and plenty of cash in the bank (~$20M as at 31 December 2022).

GAL hasn’t yet identified the source of the mineralisation and so has planned a series of step-out drill holes 200 metres east from the existing drilling to target the potential source. This will test the idea there are multiple mineralised rock units in the area and that the source of these rocks may exist further to the east and to the north.

GAL’s metallurgical program is also ongoing with a focus on producing a single bulk sulphide concentrate similar to that produced by operating South African PGE mines.

As we covered a week ago, initial metallurgical test work results on a diamond core composite sample of disseminated sulphide mineralisation demonstrated very high recoveries for key metals. It also showed that the disseminated sulphide mineralisation responds very well to sulphide flotation at industry standard conditions.

That testwork is the basis for more advanced testing to understand how best to extract the metals from the Callisto mineralisation.
